Helsinki Pinball Hunting

August 10th, 2011 by FRaNKy

I had a free afternoon while in Helsinki and my Finnish Pinball Compadre Teemu pointed me to Flipperit.net that holds a list of playable pinball machines “in the field” up there in the Nordics.  A quick search for “Helskini” gave the Linnanmaki Amusement Park as an excellent place to start.

Building number one has 4 games.  Rollercoaster Tycoon, Baywatch, Attack From Mars and Revenge From Mars.  Now hold it.. A BAYWATCH ? In the field ?  This isn’t the greatest of game, has the epic big display and it dates in 3 second with The Hoff on it.  And Pamela Anderson didn’t improve over the years either.  All games were playable, nice cabinets, everyting in working order but dirty playfields…

Off to the 2nd building that holds arcade games and pinballs..  And a lineup that would look good in many gamerooms.  Starship Troopers, Frankenstein, Junk Yard, No Good Gofers, Lord Of The Rings, Congo, Fish Tales, (a 2nd) Revenge From Mars and Who Dunnit.

I was surprised to see a Starship Troopers in there.  Not many were made and they have become pretty rare, it’s a great game tho.  With Frankenstein we have the 2nd Epic Big Screen SEGA game and with a Lord Of The Rings the 2nd Stern has been found.

I should mention that ALL the cabinets looked great.  That FishTales was actually RED..  Holy crap.  Playwise not much wrong…  The GI was out on Starship Troopers and No Good Gofers had such weak flippers that you couldn’t make the ramps.  Otherwise again dirty but very playable.

So when around in Helsinki, check this place.   I’ll be back there every time I’m around.  The amusement park is free to enter, you only pay for the rides.  Games are 50 cents for 3 balls (1 euro for LOTR), and the replay values are quite low so if you got some ball control you’re in for a free game.
